Under the Lid

Hold onto

your hat

all those things

you hid

under it

as a kid

go to bat

don’t look under

the lid

it’s one angry

bee hive

under there!

hold on tight

give up the fight

all your might

I’m goanna blow my stack

step on a crack

in fright

close your eyes

I’m turning on the light

fall on your back

never give in

to Mack

you travel in the night

something’s not quite right

but you go on

your lonely

journey

anyway…

there is no choice

you had to

speak your voice

it is something we

do to keep

our minds and hands

busy

or we would surely

get dizzy

and

die

forever in silence

but didn’t

a part of us

whither away

every time

we got our hearts

broken?

when we learnt

we couldn’t eat everything

we wanted just like we used to

when we were fourteen?

goodbye Mrs. cream filled Twinkie!

didn’t it happen

to us once

again

when we

looked deep into the

bathroom mirror

spotting that

first grey hair

we plucked out?

(an old f _ _ t in the making?)

it hit us right

between the eyes!

the mirror beautified

cracked open wide!

we knew then

that life wasn’t

forever

didn’t we?

and we knew we

damned well better

speed things

up a bit

and start going

after

what we wanted

in life!

(we await it on a silver platter, Suzy Q?)

but

isn’t what we

really wanted

simple and elementary

like a child of god

would desire?

to live a life

that didn’t

HURT LIKE HELL!

we found out

life wasn’t going

to do it our way

because it doesn’t

play our

(silly?)

little mind games

it plays

by its own rules

never divulging

what it’s actually

up to.

then,

we became bitter

like loud mouthed

screaming babies

when

life didn’t pan out

exactly as we wished!

(oh, sure… go ahead and cry your little eyes out and sit in a corner and pout! That will teach mean ole ‘Mr. life’ one big lesson, won’t it!)

and we were so

disappointed

when we learned our bitterness

backfires in our faces

every time

we whine

eating us up

ALIVE

from the inside out

like the most deadliest cancer

of all

and we learned

that it is better to love

because we find love

when we give it freely

(unless it already dried up and blew away!)

yes!

some do take advantage

(those evil ones who do their

evil deeds and find greatest

delight

watching our tears fall

breaking these fragile hearts

of ours

filled with

such

goodness and joy)

instead of those poisonous

dead

bastardly hearts

like theirs

because you can’t destroy a

heart filled with

badness,

deceit

greediness

selfishness

and

deception…

IN THE MEANTIME:

through the years…

we learned how

we must be

to survive

this miserable life

didn’t we?

because in our final

hour

when we

experience

our own demise

we will know

we were right

about it

all along

when we

made the

conscious

choice.

we will leave a legacy

of selfless love

when

departing from this planet

taking no

guilt

remorse

shame

nor revenge

along for the ride

because we have also learned

in the nick of time

revenge is not

so sweet

as we once had

hoped it

would be

NO,

not at all…

If we had

perpetrated our

final act of revenge

upon those

dirtiest of all

bastards

who wronged us so

shamelessly

doing us in

smashing us to the ground

stomping our hearts

to pieces

walking away

guiltless

like nothing happened

at all

laughing at our suffering

(like we were a piece of you know what!)

it would have

puffed

their

huge

egos

up

that much

more

assuring

them

they were right

all along

in

what they dealt

us

NEWS FLASH FROM ‘somewhere’ ABOVE!

it is wise

not to mimic

someone else…

be thyself

good,

bad,

ugly

or

indifferent

because

someday

you will

attract

real

friends

who will

flock to your

side

in time

to comfort

and stroke

your weary

brow

and soothe

your soul…

lift not

your little

finger

nor

twitch

an

eye.

‘vengeance is mine?’

Ah, revenge…

it is so

not up to

US.
