Withering away in Winogaritaville

wine-garitaville, poetry, steven humphreys

Livin’ in

Spain a lot

(drinking ‘shots’ while

humming my

old tune…)

withering

away

in

winogaritaville

man it’s

H  O  T!

pouring

insane

jalapeno sauce

(like gravy)

over

half-baked

tater tots

temperature risin’

connectin’

all

life’s

obscure

dots

one rusty

robot

playing slots

like one ‘hot shot’

I’m

so…

N  O  T

stomach tied in a million

knots

out of money

lost in my thoughts

watching the tide

swallowed all my pride

smothered in harrow

drinking

wine-garitas

by the

W H E E L B A R R O W

nothin’ to lose

why the h _ _ l

not!?

rotted gut

flip-flops

S  H  O  T

won’t

beg or borrow

hung over

through

tomorrow

deep in

sorrow

can’t go back

riding

low

feelin’ hollow

failed the straight

and narrow

can’t stay here

can’t go back

stuck in a crack

matter of fact

drinking bottled

sangria from

a brown paper

S  A  C  K

over the hill

S  O

missing my

D  A  L  E

all’s behind

me

N  O  W

memories

in

fragmented pieces

A  N  D      H  O  W!

sitting

at the bar

till

closing time

(nine)

living life

‘my way’

put me on

a lonely highway

skin pale

senorita

yellin’

‘sloe gin fizz or

ale’?

(still not gellin’?)

another me

from

another

time

called home

last thin

dime

she’s been

buried

some

fifty odd

years

behind

it’s cryin’ time

past my prime

my

scraggly

goatee’s

long

like

that wooly

beast

in the

field

over there

singing his

song…

(Ha! I just know that scrawny sadistic b_ _ _ _ _d’s mocking me!)

BAH! BAH! BAH!

(translation: it’s your own damned fault!)
