We the sensitive

we the sensitive, beer, wine, drinking, drunk, poetry, steven humphreys

We the sensitive

herald

a

victorious

sigh

tooting

whiney

trumpets

tossing

brown and green

bottles

out windows

onto

rustic

river

pebbles

and

bushes of our

own sacred

victory

gardens

we the sensitive

wear our hearts

profoundly

upon unbuttoned

sleeves

wasting

our precious lives

as the ruthless

hunters of this murderous

jungle

tread upon us

openly

arrogantly

tearing and tugging

at our souls

reforming

our innocent

childlike

being into

their own rubber

puppet

we close

we shut out

we

withdraw

in

bitter sweetness

wearing kindly fearful

faces

ashamed

and utterly

phony

it is how we

learned

to survive

this is our way

kind to bitterness

apologizing for the bastard’s

brazen

cruelty

betraying every principle

we stood for

we the sensitive

reduced to

hiding

behind a plastic

keyboard

locked in a small

darkened room

typing

‘woe is me’

poetic

slurs

within

the last

hour

of

night
