Under midnight sky

Under midnight sky

of itself

out there

cannot be seen

starry, yes

lean back

look up

so black

pinhole stars

moon drifting by

red Mars

it seeps in

we become

the universe

drinking wine

playing our music

feeling fine

lying back in pillowed fold up chairs

looking at old photos

with a pen light

breathing jasmine

in the air

get up

take a stroll

under street lamps

over the knoll

down the steep side

the valley sleeps

remember when

our requiem

time makes

men seek

a ruffle in the bush

a bird takes flight

fold up your chair

time to go

the night told me so

I will lay my head in bed

like those do in the valley

under midnight sky

things change

everything becomes stranger

in its own way

we will come back

to visit this same spot

another night

we will remember

our footsteps

and where they

began and ended
