Floating in my little dinghy boat

You pay for cable

willing and able

bound to

a two-year

contract

full of

commercials

actors

actresses

in those

crummy

low-budget

‘B’ movie

rehearsals

stranded on

that island

bare foot

on the

hot baking sand

with

ol’

Gilligan

on

free

antenna

TV

was just as good

but you won’t likely

get a cable bill reversal

I get five hundred

channels with nothing

on

from morning

noon

night

way til’

dawn

that

old familiar

brown

truck

drops off

my parcel

I open it up

and out pops

another worthless

widget marvel

then it strikes me hard

I’m wasting money

too many dimes

I’m older

than i thought

ahead of my time

younger

rock stars

politicians

rich men

poor men

alike

are all dropping like flies

not so sublime

then I start thinking

and sighing

remembering all those

well drinks I was buyin’

slammed down

my throat

at

all those bars

I’m not lying

hum…

(my poor liver!

lucky it still works!)

nevertheless,

I’m not famous

not as old

as that Amos

passing up my old peers

despite all my irrational fears

‘my number is coming up!’

so I eat healthy sups

write poetry

quite enough

don’t guzzle beer

didn’t turn queer

don’t smoke

don’t do dope

tellin’ dry jokes

I

scheduled in

when I wrote

all words that rhymed…

nope,

imagined

sitting in my

bathtub

water

feelin’

fine

floating

in my little

dinghy boat

not bothered

seein’

signs

cause’ it’s

another

way

I’ve found

that helps

keep my

feet

on the

ground

world

goin’ round’

comin’ round’

Prayin’ to the Father

head in the clouds

not talking loud

whispering low

nowhere

further

to go

cept’

right

here

where

I

am

coping

with

all

this

stuff

called

life
