Five Ghosts on My Couch

Walking down

my old

cold vibes strike

ten feet tall

five ghosts

on my couch

leaning back

against my

living room

silence won

the long beleaguered

spirits lingered

living here

beyond these sixteen years

one man

side graying hair

two others

joined at each arm

translucent forms

unknown phantom

just stopping by

to say ‘hi’

much I’ve seen

in past

invisible dualities

bonded at last

my frightened wife

those ghastly states of affairs

I ordered ‘not to bother her’

you can make the rules

in your own house

‘you are not to stand over my bed looking at me

in the middle of the night one inch from my face!’

happened before

not scary to me

because of god’s grace

I don’t like it

I’d prefer they didn’t do it

when I was really into

I mean

the occult stuff

which used to

happen all the time

I decided I had my fill of it

(that psychic training)

for the time being

I closed that door

(it’s been over thirty years since)

but now

it’s slightly open

forever reigning

because I’m not too far

from joining them

I have a nail on my door

with a sign

‘enter at your own peril ye who be wraithlike!’
