How to Publish a Book

Have you wondered the easiest way how to publish a book? I know from my own experience it’s easier to self publish a book than it used to be. But, these days you can sign up as an author at Amazon and Barnes and Nobel and upload your manuscript and start selling it online.

On Amazon they have the software where you can design your own cover and add a description to it. It’s a lot of fun writing your book and creating your own beautiful cover. It takes a little know how and there’s a learning curve, but once you get your feet wet, and start doing it, you will get the hang of it through trial and error. You can upload your own cover at Barnes and Noble and Amazon. You can even use your Paint software to design a very nice book cover yourself.

The support staff at Amazon and Barnes and Nobel are really helpful, and they always get back to you in a timely manner

Do your Research

If you have a topic that you think would interest someone, do a search with your keyword on the web to see how many results show up for it. If there’s hundreds of millions of results that show up for the same topic, you know there’s too much competition for your subject. If it’s say, below a million or below fifty thousand, there is an interest, but maybe not everyone is doing it, so it might be a winner. If there’s not many searches at all, there’s probably not enough interest.

What I do is go on seobook.com and use their keyword tool to see how much interest there is for a certain keyword, and if it’s in the hundreds, I don’t think it’s worth bothering over. You can sign up there, and it’s free. It’s well worth the time you spend doing the research to know if too many people are doing or not enough people are doing what you want to do.

Can you make a Living at this?

If you go into writing to make big money, think again. There’s very few of us writers who make a living at it. It usually doesn’t pay enough. If you are retired like me and have an income or you are doing it part time because you enjoy it, it can be a good business write off. But, the IRS has to be convinced it’s a serious business and you can show you intend on making a profit and it’s not a hobby.

Click on one of the links below to sign up as a new author. It’s the easiest way I know to do it all yourself. It’s been fun for me. You also might want to start your own author website if you haven’t already done so. First choice, is use your name. Or, if it’s taken, do what I did. Use yournamewriter.com or yournameauthor.com. Best, is just your name if it’s available. First choice is a Dot Com, second is Dot Net.

This is a WordPress site if you don’t already know. I am very happy with their webmaster tools and support crew, and would refer anyone. You just can’t beat it. I have tried other webhosts and WordPress.Com owned by Automattic I think is one of the best going. Did you know that 25% of all websites are wordpress? That should speak for itself. I sure wish I would have found them in the beginning. It would have saved me a lot of trouble. Sign up with WordPress.Com to get your free website. Later, you can buy your own domain name when you decide this is for you, or not.
