Rendezvous with Oars

Did you feel you missed the boat

in life

because someone said

both paddles of yours were not in the water

and your rudder was backwards?

So, you had a

rendezvous

with oars

throwing them both

over the brink of the waterfall

finding a new hole in the

bottom of your sinking

boat

as you dropped to your destiny.

We are who we are;

make no mistake about it.

the grave miscalculation I made

was I thought I was not

OK

despite

my soul

 tormenting

me

throughout my younger years.

That was another me.

In another time.

I saw

beauty and ugliness

through a coke bottle

lens.

those who surrounded me

were no friends of mine.

I poorly chose the company I kept,

but I learned things

that changed my head,

and my heart

down to my very toes.

from that moment

my eyes stayed

a stranger’s eyes

 dwelling there

inside

day in,

day out

morphing things I saw.
