The Thorough Life

You missed the point of living

when a highway

runs through your vanity.

You could have lived by the side of the road

and been free, but you sold out

when those pompous fools deemed you nothing but common

When you do declare living large,

all those brutal men will pass you by

in their cars,

on their horses,

and

in their planes.

But, you will have learned

We are as good and as bad

as each other

on any given day.

we self appoint

our cynic,

weeping too much,

scorning

no friends to men

none the wiser

imposing limits to your infinite plan.

take heed

to that which is hardly unnoticed.

It will tell you

Always to forget

to pay your toll over that

bridge where you once

began to live

the thorough life
