Hidden in the Garden of Fools

Have you ever been

Hidden in a

Garden of Fools?

I know

I would like to be

crawling around

in there

once again

with all those mules

Not as a fly

on the wall

Pinkerton small

but, lost within a maze

of green living

purple haze

because that doesn’t matter

what does

a grasshopper

on a tomato

a lizard under a melon

a bird pecking a pepper

in a country bar

drunk on jack and coke

listening to blazing

loud fiddles

and acoustic guitars

while the rat said to the cat

‘can’t we be friends?’

jumping up and down

with his cowboy boots on

doing a line dance

hidden in the garden of fools

is like that place in the heart

where all is forgiven

then forgotten

and grown over

your grave stone

that has a crack in it

where the trees

even though they have no eyes

know we are looking at them

because they are looking down at you

why is what we have, not enough?

One of my biggest mistakes in life

was not being serious enough

Yet, at times, I made the equally grave mistake

of taking everything way too seriously

by laughing my head off

if you will only accept yourself

exactly the way you are

right now

where you stand

Because, once you understand

why your father was the way he was

to you

you will then understand

and the reasons

you’ve treated

in your

the way you

because, every single spirit

 he killed

he put a

clown nose

while he slapped them

on their

rosy red
